Current position: Curriculum Leader in German
Angela Hillan has been teaching at St Bonaventure’s since 2010 and has been leading the school’s German department since 2012. St Bonaventure’s German cohorts are significantly larger than the national average and GCSE results are outstanding. A level groups have achieved 100% A*-C grades in the last 5 years and are in the top 20% nationally in terms of progress. Angela has mentored PGCE students, NQTs and other curriculum leaders. She has taken over the organisation of the school’s long-running German exchange with a partner school in Kaiserslautern, and organises a range of extra curricular activities in German and British Sign Language across all key stages with the aim of increasing motivation and uptake . Angela delivers CPD in school on memorisation strategies and revision techniques, and is a regular contributor to the school’s Teaching and Learning Forum. She has worked with other schools to improve achievement in speaking and writing skills in MFL, as well as motivation and progress at A Level. As part of the TSST MFL programme, Angela has delivered training to MFL teachers who want to teach in a second or third language as well as teachers of different subjects who want to move into teaching MFL.
