Year 11 Students and members of staff at St Bonaventure’s celebrated one of the best GCSE results in recent years, with many students achieving top grades and others showing great determination to secure strong exam outcomes.

Performance was particularly strong in core subjects, including 74% of students securing a good pass in both English and Maths, with more than half achieving a strong pass in both subjects, and 56% and 100% achieving grade 5+ in all three separate sciences. Congratulations go to all of our students and their families on these results. St Bonaventure’s is also looking forward to welcoming many of the Year 11 cohort back in September as they continue their education in the school’s very popular 6th Form.

  • Over a third of GCSE grades overall were 7 and above – a significant rise on 2025 but also above 2024
  • Two thirds of all GCSE grades were a strong pass (5) or higher
  • Nearly 80% of all GCSEs were above Grade 4 (standard pass)
  • Virtually every GCSE entry resulted in a graded qualification
  • 8 students got 5 or more Grade 9s, demonstrating some excellent individual performances

Headteacher Mr Christopher McCormack said, “It is wonderful to see these great results from our Year 11 students. I am incredibly pleased with their achievements, but I am equally proud of the character they have built and developed during their time at St Bonaventure’s. These results are a fantastic way to begin our 150th anniversary celebrations in the next academic year. We are very proud of all our students and grateful to our staff and families for the support they have given them throughout the year. We look forward to welcoming many of our students back into the Sixth Form.”

Mr Gary Murray, Year Leader for Year 11, said, “I’m really pleased to see our students’ hard work and commitment throughout the year reflected in their results. This group worked with incredible dedication, supporting one another and showing real maturity along the way. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow over the past year, and today is a chance for them to celebrate everything they have achieved and look forward to what comes next. I feel incredibly proud to have been part of their journey and to see them reach this important moment in their lives.”

For students, today’s results day marked the end of an important chapter and the start of the next one. Among this year’s individual successes, Dominik was one of our top-achieving students with a remarkable ten grade 9s and an impressive full mark in English Literature, said: “It feels amazing to be celebrating such great results today and to see how far I have come since I first joined St Bonaventure’s in Year 7. I have had so many great experiences here, and want to thank all the teachers and staff who have supported me throughout my journey. Excited that my journey with St Bonaventure’s will continue into the Sixth Form, and I’m looking forward to starting this next chapter.”

Edward is another student who excelled with five grade 9s and three grades 8, and commented on his results: “I put a lot of work in, so it’s a great feeling to see it pay off. I’m really grateful to my family, friends, and teachers for all the support they gave me during my GCSEs.”

Abiodun achieved five grade 9s and four grade 8s and is looking forward to continuing his studies at St Bonaventure’s 6th Form. “I’m happy with my results, particularly in maths. The teachers have believed in me throughout my time at St Bon’s, and I’m looking forward to coming back in September and studying A Level in maths, further maths, and computer science.”

Santhosh, who received 7 grade 9s and one grade 8, said: “I’m very proud of the fantastic results I have achieved today. There were definitely challenging moments throughout my GCSEs studies, but all the guidance from my teachers and family has made a huge difference. I’m very grateful to be part of St Bonaventure’s community.“

St Bonaventure’s 6th Form remains one of the most sought-after destinations for post-16 education in Newham and beyond, receiving around 1,800 applications for just 185 places for the third consecutive year. Its strong academic record continues to open doors for students, with recent leavers progressing to Russell Group universities, competitive apprenticeships and a wide range of further education and career pathways.
