Admissions Information

The staff, governing body and pupils of St Bonaventure’s welcome you to apply for a place at our school. To do this you must follow the correct process for your child’s age as detailed below.

For children living in Newham, families must apply via the London Borough of Newham. For children living outside of Newham, whose family wants them to attend this school, their application must be made through their home borough, naming this school as a preference on their application.

Before starting the process it is recommended all families read the Newham Council Starting Secondary School guide and find out information about the process.

Step by Step Guide (1-2-3)

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

1 – Common Application Form (CAF)

PAN London application process for all pupils applying for a school place, applied via your own Local Authority Completed on paper or online (www.eadmissions.org.uk)

2 – St Bonaventure’s Supplementary Information Form

As part of our admission arrangements, St Bonaventure’s requires a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) if an applicant wants their child to be considered under our faith-based criteria (priority groups).  If an applicant does not complete a SIF or does not want to be considered under our faith-based criteria (priority groups) the child will be automatically added to the lowest priority group when we rank the applications.

A SIF is not an application form, so it cannot be considered unless an application (CAF – see above) is made via the local authority.

Supplementary Information Forms: (Google Doc) – (Word) – (PDF)

3 – Baptism Certificate or Faith Leader’s Reference Form

  • Catholics – Submit a copy of your son’s Baptism Certificate
  • Non-Catholics – Get your relevant Faith Leader to complete this form and return directly to the school – (Google Doc) – (Word) – (PDF)

For September 2027 Admissions the application deadline is the 31st of October 2026. However, we recommend submitting all forms and documents by Friday 23rd of October 2026, as the school office will be closed from the 26th to the 30th of October for half term.

All documents handed in after the 31st October 2026, will be classed as late applications.

In Year Admissions

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

If a family arrives in Newham in the middle of a school year and their child needs a school place, they must complete an In Year form naming their preferred schools.

School places are usually offered within 10 days.  The place offered may not be at the school the family prefers as that school may not have a suitable place available.

In Year Admissions for 1 September 2026 to 18 July 2027 (Year Groups: 7 to 11). Before submitting an In Year school application we strongly recommend all families read the Newham Council Starting Secondary School guide and find out information about the process.

Supplementary Information Form (SIF)

As part of our admission arrangements we require a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) if an applicant wants their child to be considered under our faith based criteria (priority groups).  If an applicant does not complete and submit a SIF or does not want to be considered under our faith based criteria (priority groups) the child will be automatically added to the lowest priority group when we rank the applications.

A SIF is not an application form so cannot be considered unless an application is made. In-Year Application Form – SIF

Baptism Certificate or Faith Leader’s Reference Form

  • Catholics – Submit a copy of your son’s Baptism Certificate
  • Non-Catholics – Get your relevant Faith Leader to complete this form and return directly to the school – (Google Doc) – (Word) – (PDF)

FAQ

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

How do I apply for a Year 7 place?

Applications must be made through your home local authority using the Common Application Form (CAF). For Newham residents, this is completed via the London Borough of Newham. Apply online or request a paper form at: www.eadmissions.org.uk

What supporting documents are required?

If you wish your child to be considered under our faith-based criteria, you must complete a Supplementary Information Form (SIF). Catholic applicants should provide a Baptism Certificate, while non-Catholics must ask their faith leader to complete the Faith Leader’s Reference Form.

What are the key deadlines?

The closing date for on-time Year 7 applications is 31st October 2026. However, we recommend submitting all forms and documents by the 23rd of October, as the school office will be closed from Monday 26th October to Sunday 1st of November for half term.

What happens if the school is full?

If no places are available, your child will be added to a waiting list managed by the London Borough of Newham. The waiting list is managed in the same way as the application process, giving priority to applications with SIFs and supporting evidence

What if we move to Newham mid-year?

You must complete an In-Year Admission form via Newham Council. If a place is available, it is usually offered within 10 days.

When will we find out the outcome of our application?

The National offer day for secondary schools is 1 March 2027.

Who should I contact for help with the admissions process?

Please email our school office at info@stbons.org or call 020 8472 3844 for assistance.
