Uniform Information

St Bonaventure’s insists that all students wear the correct full uniform in its entirety at all times including coming to and from school. We expect all our parents to support us with our strict uniform policy, as this is all part of the high expectations that we have for our students.

We believe that if boys dress correctly for work, they perform better in lessons. This has been proven to be right over many years of excellence.

Years 7 & 8

  • School brown blazer (brown with school badge).
  • Plain black formal school trousers.
  • Official brown ‘V’ neck school jumper.
  • Plain white collared shirt. (Can be long or short sleeved)
  • School tie.
  • Black formal leather shoes (training shoes, suede shoes of any kind are not allowed).
  • The official school black coat or any other plain black coat may be worn over the school blazer.
  • The wearing of any jewellery, jeans, cords or caps or hats is strictly forbidden.
  • The only form of acceptable hat is a school woollen hat with the St Bon’s logo (available from the School Reception) and only when the weather is such that the school determines that they can be worn, this is usually from November to Easter .
  • Belts must be black and simple in design with no large or designer buckle.

Years 9, 10 & 11

  • School black blazer (black with gold trim and school badge).
  • Plain black school trousers (formal).
  • Plain black ‘V’ neck school jumper is compulsory for Year 9, 10 and Year 11.
  • Plain white collared school shirt.
  • School tie.
  • Black leather shoes (training shoes, suede shoes of any kind are not allowed).
  • Year 9, 10 and Year 11 can wear the official black school coat or any plain black coat. It must be worn over the school blazer and must be removed once inside the school building.
  • The wearing of any jewellery, jeans, cords, hats or caps is forbidden.
  • Belts must be black and simple in design with no large or designer buckle.
  • The only form of acceptable hat is a school woollen hat with the St Bon’s logo (available from the School Reception), this can only be worn when the weather is deemed to be bad enough. This is usually from November to Easter.

Haircuts

Students’ hair should be clean, tidy and appropriate for a school environment. Patterns, symbols, words or markings shaved into the hair or eyebrows are not permitted. Hair should not be cut shorter than a Number 1, unless there is a medical, religious, cultural or other protected reason which has been discussed with the school.

The school recognises that hairstyles may reflect cultural, racial, religious and personal identity. Natural hair, protective hairstyles, braids, locks, twists, cornrows and other culturally significant hairstyles are permitted, provided they are safe, clean and do not prevent learning.

Concerns about hair will be dealt with reasonably, sensitively and consistently, in line with the Equality Act 2010. Parents/carers will normally be contacted, and a reasonable timescale agreed to resolve any issue. The Headteacher, or a delegated senior member of staff, will make the final decision on whether a hairstyle meets the expectations of the school policy.

PE & Games

PE kit is part of the school uniform and must be worn for all PE lessons and games activities. The compulsory PE kit consists of:

  • Black and gold rugby shirt or PE T-shirt
  • Black shorts
  • Black football socks

All students wear the same core PE kit throughout their time at St Bonaventure’s. Football boots and non-marking trainers should be brought as required for specific activities.

The official PE uniform is available exclusively from Lucilla’s. Any student who wins a National Sports Competition may be permitted to wear the relevant commemorative top, but only with the approval of the Curriculum Leader for PE.

Optional PE items available to purchase include:

  • Extra PE T-shirt or Black and gold rugby shirt
  • Tracksuit bottoms
  • Tracksuit shorts

These optional items may be worn for PE and extra-curricular activities.

Uniform Supplier and Affordability

We want our uniform to support high standards, a strong sense of belonging and good value for families. The school regularly reviews its uniform policy and supplier arrangements to ensure they remain affordable, practical and compliant with current legal requirements and Department for Education guidance.

We know how quickly children grow, so parents/carers may wish to choose items with a little room for growth where this is comfortable and appropriate. Only a small number of compulsory items are branded and need to be purchased from the school’s approved supplier. Most other items can be bought from any suitable retailer, provided they meet the school’s published uniform requirements. With appropriate care, items such as blazers, jumpers and PE tops may last beyond one academic year. The school will continue to keep uniform expectations under review, including affordability, availability, quality and compliance.

Our uniform supplier is:
Lucilla’s Ltd, 180A Cranbrook Road, Ilford, Essex. IGI 4LX
Telephone: 020 8554 5133.
